Sayre and Sorensen Tabbed Men's T&F Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Geneseo's Matthew Sayre  and Cortland's Dane Sorensen as this week's Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

At the Redhawk Invitational on Friday night, Sayre topped a field that included NCAA Division I and Division II athletes to take first in the 5000, crossing the finish in 14:17.52, the fastest mark in NCAA Division III so far this season. Sayre ranks ahead of the second-fastest mark by more than 10 seconds.

Sorensen finished second in the pole vault at the University at Buffalo Invitational with a height of 4.80 meters (15' 9") that currently ranks eighth nationally in Division III and second in the Atlantic region. Sorensen matched the height of the winner from Division I Kent State, but officially finished second due to having one miss at that height compared to none for the winner. Earlier in the week, Sorensen placed second in the pole vault at the Cortland Challenge at 4.75 meters (15' 7").
