SUNYAC announces 2018 men's cross country annual awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's cross country annual awards have been voted on by the conference coaches. The top awards are the Runner of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Men's Coach of the Year in the conference.


 Runner of the Year - Sean McAneny, Geneseo

Geneseo's Sean McAneny was instrumental in helping the Knights enjoy another successful season in the conference. The junior was among the top-finishers in several meets during the regular season, and didn't disappoint during the 2018 men's cross country conference championship. Among 112 finishers runners who crossed the finish line during the championship race in Fredonia, McAneny was first, with an impressive time of 28:28.2. His performance, along with the performances of his teammates, helped Geneseo dominate, enabling them to win their fifth-consecutive SUNYAC title (17th overall). Additionally, his championship finish helped earn him All-Conference First Team honors. McAneny's running prowess didn't stop there, however. During this year's Atlantic Region Championships, the Knight crossed the finish line second out of 307 runners, helping Geneseo emerge victorious out of 44 other competing teams. During this year's NCAA Division III Championships, McAneny finished 24th among the 279 runners who crossed the finish line.

   


 Rookie of the Year - Riley Grossman, Geneseo

Riley Grossman's success during his years running cross country for Bethlehem High School Riley translated into significant success during his debut season for Geneseo. His efforts established him among the top runners in the SUNYAC. The freshman was quite competitive in the meets he ran over the course of the season, and had quite a strong finish in the 2018 conference championship. During that race in Fredonia, Grossman crossed the finish line seventh among all other runners, with a time of 29:16.9. His fine performance, along with the performances of his teammates, was a key factor in leading the Knights to a 2018 SUNYAC championship. His efforts also landed him a spot on the SUNYAC men's cross country All-Conference team. Out of 307 runners who completed this year's Atlantic Region Championship race, Grossman finished 47th.

  

  


 Coach of the Year - Dan Moore, Geneseo

2018 marks the third-consecutive year that Dan Moore has been honored as the Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. Geneseo men's and cross country has consistently been recognized as one of the premiere running programs across the country under Moore's guidance, and the 2018 season was no different. During his fourth season at the helm for the Knights, Geneseo won the conference championship, and also emerged victorious in the Atlantic Region Championship race. The Knights finished 10th in this year's NCAA Division III Championships.
