A Day in the Life of Colin Battersby

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) takes a look into A Day in the Life of New Paltz senior cross country student-athlete Colin Battersby. In 2019 he placed 76th overall at the SUNYAC championships after crossing in 28:59.6. Battersby also earned a spot on the 2019 SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll as a business management major. 


What time do you typically wake up?

I typically wake up around 6:30 or 7 a.m. 

What is one thing that you do (nearly) every day that keeps you on track for competition?

I like to do physical therapy exercises every day to keep me on track because I know that if I don't, my injuries will return and potentially stop me from competing. 

What motivates you (to be the best in your sport)?

My teammates motivate me to be the best in my sport. They always push me to work harder and stay in shape. 

How do you stay connected with your teammates?

I stay in contact with my teammates through group chats, social media, and before COVID-19 we would always meet in the library and work on homework together. 

What is your top lunch choice?

My top lunch choice is a homemade black bean burger or a fruit smoothie with protein powder. 

What time is practice?

Before COVID-19, practice would usually take place around 6:30 a.m.

What class are you looking forward to or/enjoy most this semester?

I am looking forward to my leadership class this semester. 

What helps you stay focused each day?

I am graduating soon so the idea of graduation keeps me focused. I know that if i don't get all my work done it might hold me back from graduating on time. 

Favorite late night snack?

My favorite late night snack is either pizza, cheez-its, or vanilla yogurt and chocolate chips. 

How many hours a night do you typically sleep?

I try to sleep eight hours a night, but realistically I sleep about 6-7 hours.
