CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) takes a look into a Day in the Life of Buffalo State's Montaka Shad. The English major (exercise science minor) hails fom Buffalo, N.Y.


What time do you typically wake up?

I typically wake up around 5 a.m. every morning.

What is one thing that you do (nearly) every day that keeps you on track for competition?

One thing that I do every day that keeps me on track for competition is running my regular miles, which is about 7 to 10 miles a day, 6 days a week. 

What motivates you (to be the best in your sport)?

I don't feel like I need any motivation to run, I just simply like running, especially when I am running with my friends. I do try to be in the best shape possible at all times, so when I am racing against others, I could put up a challenge.

How do you stay connected with your teammates?

I stay connected with my teammates by hanging out with them and at times through social media.

What is your top lunch choice?

Pasta.

What time is practice?

7 a.m.

What class are you looking forward to or/enjoy most this semester?

The class I am enjoying the most this semester is ENG 303 Literature in Film.

What helps you stay focused each day?

My goal is always to get the highest grade possible every semester, that's always in my mind, which helps me stay focused every day.  

Favorite late-night snack?

Fruit snacks, gummy bears, or chocolate chip cookies, sometimes all three.

How many hours a night do you typically sleep?

It depends, sometimes five hours, sometimes seven.
