PITTSFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior infielder Tori Fahie lifted a two-run home run that proved to be the difference as the Knights earned a 3-0 victory over No. 7 St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Regional.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Fahie blasted a shot over the right-center field fence, giving the Knights a 2-0 advantage.
  • In the fifth, Geneseo added a run when junior outfielder Danni Napoli lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score sophomore pitcher Ashlyn Kersch.
  • Kersch limited the St. John Fisher offense to one hit, shutting out the Cardinals to earn the win.

QUICK FACTS

  • The game marked Geneseo's second-consecutive shutout and the team's 10th of the season. The Knights have held opponents to two or fewer runs in 24 games this season, posting a 22-2 record in those contests.
  • Kersch earned her 14th victory of the season, her fourth complete-game shutout of the year.
  • Fahie's home run was the first of her career and the Knights' third home run of the NCAA Regional.
  • Geneseo faced one of the best pitchers in NCAA Division III history, the Cardinals' Lindsay Thayer, recording three runs on five hits.
  • Senior Tori Fahie and Claire VanNewkirk were scheduled to graduate on Saturday but instead attended the softball game. Before the game, the Cardinals hosted a small ceremony, honoring the seniors of both teams and allowing them to walk across the stage at St. John Fisher.

Geneseo will play on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in the NCAA Regional final, and will face either St. John Fisher, Immaculata or Mt. St. Mary.
