SUNYAC announces softball weekly honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has chosen Cortland's Cady Walts (Cortland, N.Y.) as the Softball Pitcher of the Week and Plattsburgh's Bella Spadinger (Loudonville, N.Y) as the Softball Athlete of the Week. 

Walts posted a 3-0 record and a 1.98 ERA during Cortland's three game California spring break trip. In 17 and two thirds innings she allowed 12 hits, eight walks, and struck out 14 batters. Walts gave up only two hits, a walk, and fanned six over six innings of relief in a 9-2 win at Chapman. She also tossed a complete-game six-hitter in a 10-3 win at nationally 11th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. 

Spadinger batted .444 (12-for-27) while recording 11 RBI, eight runs scored, two doubles and a home run over a 10-game week for the Cardinals. She currently is riding an eight-game hit streak. Spadinger batted 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored against Bethel University on Wednesday and hit 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored versus Hamilton College on Saturday in her two best games during the week. For the season, she is batting .368 and ranks fifth in the SUNYAC in RBI (12).
