New Paltz and Geneseo voted No. 1 in softball divisional preseason poll

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball coaches ranked New Paltz No. 1 in the East division and Geneseo at the top of the West in the 2021 preseason poll.

SUNYAC softball will resume conference competition on April 1 after the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Typically the SUNYAC schedules nine-dates for conference double-headers during the regular season; however, to limit travel the conference has split into East/West divisions for 2021.

In 2019 Geneseo and New Paltz finished the regular season second and third in the conference. Geneseo made it to the championship game, but was defeated by the top seeded Cortland, 7-3. The Red Dragons captured their 16th overall conference crown, which is the most in the league. Geneseo will look to wins its third overall conference championship while New Paltz will compete for its first-ever SUNYAC softball title.
