O'Gorman and Schwartz tabbed SUNYAC Softball Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Confernece (SUNYAC) has selected Cortland's Kelly O'Gorman as its Softball Athlete of the Week and Nicole Schwartz from Geneseo its Pitcher of the Week for their performances during the week ending April 11.

O'Gorman batted .480 (12-for-25) with a homer, three doubles, 11 RBI, 11 runs and a .720 slugging percentage in a 4-2 week for the Red Dragons. She hit a tie-breaking grand slam in the fourth inning and finished 3-for-5 with a homer, double, four RBI and three runs in a 9-4 victory at Oneonta Saturday. During a doubleheader sweep of New Paltz Wednesday, O'Gorman was a combined 6-for-8 with a double, five RBI and four runs scored, and she was 3-for-8 with a double and two RBI in a home split with Oneonta on Monday.

Schwartz finished 2-0 on the weekend with a pair of victories over conference opponents. Schwartz allowed just one unearned run on four hits in her start at Oswego on Friday, ringing up a career-high eight strikeouts as the Knights defeated the Lakers, 9-1. Against Fredonia on Saturday, Schwartz tossed six innings of two-run softball, took a breather for 1.1 inning as the Knights entered extra innings, and then re-entered to shut down Fredonia in the extra frames as Geneseo earned the 3-2 victory. Schwartz finished with 8.2 innings pitched, allowing two runs on seven hits and recorded six strikeouts.
