Szesnat and Schwartz Named Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Cortland's Lexi Szesnat as its Softball Athlete of the Week and Geneseo's Nicole Schwartz as its Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

Szesnat batted .714 (5-for-7) with two RBI and a steal in Cortland's lone action of the week, a doubleheader split at Plattsburgh. She was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the opener, followed by a 3-for-3 effort with two RBI in a 9-1 win in the second game. Szesnat was error free at first base for the Red Dragons.

Schwartz helped the Knights to a 3-1 week, dealing for a pair of wins from the circle. Against Brockport in relief, Schwartz entered the game in the sixth inning of a tie game with the go-ahead run on first. She retired both batters she faced and worked out of a seventh-inning jam to close out the game for the Knights and earn a 3-2 victory. Against Oswego on Friday, Schwartz allowed just six hits and struck out five in a complete-game shutout victory. Schwartz is 5-0 on the season and leads the SUNYAC with a 0.91 ERA. In 31.0 innings pitched, Schwartz has not allowed a single walk this season.
