O'Gorman and Kersch Honored with Final Softball Weekly Awards of 2021

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Cortland's Kelly O'Gorman and Geneseo's Lauren Kersch as its Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week repsectively.

In five games, O'Gorman batted .600 (12-for-20) with three homers, three doubles, a triple, a walk, two steals, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. She had a 1.300 slugging percentage and struck out only once. In the Red Dragons' regular-season finale Tuesday at Oswego, O'Gorman hit two homers, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs in an 8-6 loss. In the first game, she was 2-for-3 with a triple and double. She then was a combined 8-for-12 in Cortland's three-game SUNYAC semifinal series vs. Buffalo State. She was 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, seven RBI and four runs in the decisive 18-6 win in Game 3, and was also 3-for-4 with two runs in Cortland's 7-6 win in Game 2, including a key single during the Red Dragons' three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to avoid elimination.

Kersch posted a 2-0 record in three games pitched helping the Knights to a SUNYAC finals berth for the third-consecutive year. Kersch twirled 6.1 innings of a perfect game against Buffalo State, allowing her only baserunner on an infield single in the seventh as the Knights shutout the Bengals on Tuesday. In the SUNYAC semifinals against Oneonta, Kersch went 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out a career-high eight batters to earn a 2-1 win and send the Knights to the SUNYAC final. Geneseo will travel to Cortland for a best of three championship series on Saturday, May 15.
