Martz Honored as 2022 SUNYAC Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces Geneseo's Samantha Martz as the 2022 Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.

Martz is an early and special education major with a 3.96 cumulative GPA. This season she was named to the SUNYAC All-Conference First Team and the All-Tournament Team after she batted .667 (6-for-9) leading the Knights to their second-straight and fourth overall conference title. Martz is the first .400 hitter at Geneseo since 2016. This season she had a .410 batting average, scored 24 runs, had 13 RBI, hit four doubles, had two stolen bases and was perfect in the field.

During each season, the conference honors student-athletes for their efforts in their sport, as well as their academics. Out of hundreds of spring athletes, one athlete from each sport was selected for this distinction. In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
