Throw back to 2015 in SUNYAC women's basketball

Throw back to 2015 in SUNYAC women's basketball

CORTLAND, N.Y. -  As the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) 2017-2018 women's basketball season quickly approaches the post season, we have decided to take a glimpse into the current No. 1 Geneseo's past.

Despite many appearances in the SUNYAC post season, it was the 2014-15 team that took home the most recent championship title for the Knights. The team, led by  Scott Hemer, took on No. 2 Cortland at the Schrader Gym located on Geneseo's campus. The Knights came out strong against the Red Dragons starting out with an early lead of 8-2. Throughout the game there was a continual back and forth between the two teams, but the Knights defended their lead from start to finish. Cortland came close to closing the gap with seconds left on the clock when Geneseo guard hit a three making the score 55-53. As time came to a close the Knights came back to make their free throws and secure their title with a 61-54 win over the Red Dragons.

The win that day gave them an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament and was also their fifth overall title, second for Coach Hemer.

This season the Knights continue to be led by Scott Hemer, who is in his 11th season. They recently clinched their spot in the tournament with a conference record of 14-0, and an overall record of 19-2.

Geneseo looks to continue its winning record against New Paltz this Friday at home, with tip off at 5:30.
