New Paltz and Buffalo State advance in SUNYAC women's basketball

NEW PALTZ, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball first round playoff gsmes kicked off today in Cortland and New Paltz. Cortland played host to Buffalo State and New Paltz hosted Brockport.

The Bengals won in a tight contest against the Red Dragons, 54-5, as a last second three point attempt fell short for Cortland that would have tied the game. A big second quarter was key for Buffalo State as they held a three point lead at halftime and both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the fourth quarter.

In New Paltz, the Hawks defense was making a difference from the start of the game which helped them maintain a tight lead in the first half. Brockport was hanging in the game in the first hald but the start of the third quarter was the start of New Paltz pulling away as they got off to a nine point run to open the third quarter to go up 15. The hawks didn't look back as they won by 12.

Friday New Paltz and Buffalo State will both travel to Geneseo as the Hawks play the Knights and the Bengals will play Red Dragons of Oneonta in the SUNYAC semifinals.
