Stockman Named SUNYAC Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to announce Geneseo's Hannah Stockman as the 2022 Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors. During each season, the conference honors student-athletes for their efforts in their sport, as well as their academics. Out of hundreds of winter athletes, one athlete from each sport was selected for this distinction.

Stockman is a junior maintaining a 3.95 GPA as an early childhood education major at Geneseo. After leading the Knights in scoring with 9.9 points per game, she was named second-team All-SUNYAC. Stockman also tallied four rebounds per game. She played a major role in the league-leading defensive team, holding opponents to 50.1 points per game. Geneseo was the third seed coming out of regular season conference play (12-6) and advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals. The team lost to the eventual SUNYAC champion, New Paltz, and ended the 2021-22 season 17-10 overall.

In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
