SUNYAC announces women's lacrosse annual awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the 2018 SUNYAC women's lacrosse annual awards. Every year the conference coaches vote on these awards to honor the SUNYAC Offensive, Defensive, Rookie, and Coach of the Year as well as the All-Conference teams.  

Offensive Player of the Year: Lexie Meager, Cortland 

The 2018 Offensive Player of the Year is Cortland midfielder Lexie Meager. A sophmore from Syracuse, N.Y. Meager proved to be a strong player finishing her second season as a Red Dragon. In seventeen games played Meager posted 50 goals and 12 assists, posting a total of 62 points for this season. Meager also had 74 shots on goal, scoring in 16 out of 17 game. Meager was the SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and also hit a milestone of 100 points in 34 games played. 

Defensive Player of the Year: Hailey Dobbins, Cortland

This year's Defensive Player of the Year is Cortland defender Hailey Dobbins. A junior from Syracuse, N.Y. Dobbins has appeared in all 16 of Cortland's games this season.  In those apperances she posted 45 ground balls and 60 draw controls.  As well as those defensive statistics she also posted 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 overall points.  Cortland head coach states that Dobbins "... can change the momentum of the game with huge defensive stops."  

Rookie of the Year: Hannah Marafioti, Geneseo

This 2018 Rookie of the Year is a attack from Geneseo, Hannah Marafioti. A freshman from Fairport, N.Y. Marafioti led Geneseo in points throughout the entire season. Appearing in all 15 of the Knights games she posted 39 goals and 8 assists for a total of 47 points overall. Marafioti demonstrated her ability by also posting 20 ground balls, and 72 shots on goal this season. Geneseo head coach Carly Ritchin said, "Hannah's ability to read the defense, find the back of the net, and re-defend to give our offense additional opportunities has been crucial to our success."  

Coach of the Year: Carly Ritchlin, Geneseo 

This year's Coach of the Year goes to Geneseo's Carly Ritchlin. With the 2018 season, Ritchlin ended her 15th year as head coach of the Knights. Going into the season she had record of 162-71 and ended the season with a record of 175-75, continuing to go on as the winningst coach in the 20 year history of the program. Ritchlin ranks eleventh in NCAA Divison III history in career winning percentage and fourteenth among active coaches. She finished the 2018 season with a conference record of 6-2, and overall 13-4.
