Howard hired as full-time women's lacrosse head coach

Oswego Sports Information Department

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is happy to announce the full-time hiring of Britt Howard as its women's lacrosse head coach. For the past two seasons, Howard has served as the Lakers' part-time head of the program, garnering much success in that span.

Over the last two years, Howard has accumulated an 18-14 overall record along with a 10-6 mark in conference games. That includes back-to-back 5-3 conference marks, which was good for a postseason berth each year. The 2018 Lakers reached the SUNYAC Championships semifinal round, losing by just three, 13-10, to eventual champion Cortland.

Howard's players have been no strangers to accolades under her watch. Over the previous two campaigns, the Lakers have notched 13 All-SUNYAC selections, five Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Empire Region nods and one IWLCA All-American.

Prior to Oswego, Howard was an assistant at SUNYAC-foe Brockport. In her final year with the Golden Eagles, she was the offensive coordinator of a team that finished ninth in the final 2016 IWLCA national poll. That ranking came on the heels of Brockport earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time since 2011. While working for the Golden Eagles, Howard helped three student-athletes to All-Region accolades and five to All-Conference honors.

Before Brockport, the Oswego, N.Y. native spent time as an assistant coach at Division I Binghamton University and Division III Adrian College (Mich.). At Binghamton, Howard became a certified Division I recruiter, prepared opponent scouting reports and guided five players to All-American East selections.

During her playing career, Howard spent four years competing for Division II powerhouse Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. Over her career, the midfielder racked up 95 points on 78 goals and 17 assists. For Howard's efforts during her sophomore campaign, which included 24 points, 27 ground balls, 29 draw controls and seven caused turnovers, she was recognized as an All-Carolinas Conference Second Team selection and a USACOLLEGELACROSSE.com All-America Honorable Mention.

Howard continues the coaching family tree at Oswego, as her grandfather, Jim Howard, was the Lakers' wrestling head coach for 27 years and her father, Mike Howard, has been in that same position since the 1989-90 season. During the 2018 season, her brother Matt Howard was on the Oswego women's lacrosse coaching staff after a successful lacrosse career at Plattsburgh.

Howard obtained a Bachelor of Science in strength and conditioning with a minor in athletic coaching at Limestone. She went on to earn her Master of Science in sports management at Cortland.
