PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week Released
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week. Geneseo's Hannah Marafioti (Fairport, N.Y.) has been named the PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week and Geneseo's Caitlyn Merkel (Irondequoit, N.Y.) has been named the PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week. 
 
Marafioti led the Knights to three victories this week, scoring at least four points in each game. Against Rochester, Marafioti tallied four goals and an assist to go with a pair of ground balls as the Knights earned the 13-10 win. In a 17-11 victory over host RIT, Marafioti scored six goals and dished four assists, becoming just the second Geneseo women's lacrosse player to register multiple 10-point games in her career. At Clarkson, Marafioti scored a pair of goals and handed out two assists to lead Geneseo to a 12-8 victory. Marafioti leads the SUNYAC in goals (18) and points (26).
 
Merkel led the Geneseo defense as the Knights posted three victories last week. Against Rochester, Merkel registered a ground ball, a caused turnover and five draw controls. She added two ground balls, five draw controls and a team-high four caused turnovers against RIT as the Knights pulled out a 17-11 victory. At Clarkson, Merkel scooped three ground balls, two draw controls and a season-best five caused turnovers to help the Knights to a 12-8 win. Merkel leads the league in caused turnovers (14) and draw controls (26).
