Meager and Merkel honored with SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse weekly honors go to Cortland's Kiki Meager and Genseo's Caitlyn Merkel. They were named Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Week respectively.

Meager helped lead the Red Dragons to a pair on SUNYAC East victories last week, scoring seven points on five goals and two assists while adding 18 draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover. In an 18-17 home win versus New Paltz on Wednesday, she finished with five points on three goals and two assists and secured eight draws. Meager then netted a pair of goals, added one assist, scooped up three ground balls and won a career-high 10 draws in a 19-0 win at Potsdam on Saturday. For the season, she has nine points on seven goals and two assists and leads the team with 20 draws.

Merkel, the senior defender, impacted the Knights' season-opening 15-12 win over No. 13 Brockport, despite not recording a point. Merkel scooped up four ground balls, snagged a team-high six draw controls and forced three caused turnovers. The lone holdover from last year's starting defense, Merkel anchored a defense that included three new starters in junior Isabelle Sarle and sophomores Lindsay Merenda and Caroline Fitzgerald.
