CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) picks its first Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week for the 2017 season. The Defensive Athlete of the Week is Plattsburgh States', Nichole Gibson and the Offensive Athlete of the Week is Cortland's Brenna Conover.
Gibson, the junior goalie from Arkport, NY, recorded her first shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over Castleton. Gibson made five saves in the Cardinals win.
Conover, the junior midfielder from Smithtown, NY, lead Cortland to a 1-0-1 record on the road in its first weekend of play. After the 0-0 double-overtime tie at Moravian on Friday, Conover scored all of Cortland's goals in a 3-2 overtime win on Sunday at Rutgers-Newark. She scored her second goal in the 84th minute to send the game into overtime. Conover netted the game-winning goal just 1:55 into the first overtime with a penalty kick for her second career hat trick.
