Cunningham, Svendsen receive Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients for its weekly women's soccer awards. Geneseo senior Caitie Cunningham is the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Cortland sophomore Danika Svendsen has been named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Cunningham led the Knights to a pair of victories over conference opponents Buffalo State, 3-0, on Friday and Fredonia, 4-0, on Saturday. Against the Bengals, Cunningham scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on Geneseo's other two scores. Against the Blue Devils, Cunningham netted her third goal in three games as the Knights earned the win.

Svendsen helped lead the Cortland women's soccer team to a 3-0 record at home last week as the Red Dragons improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. In a 4-0 win versus Sage Colleges on Tuesday, Svendsen made three first-half saves in sharing the shutout. Svendsen then posted a pair of conference shutouts over the weekend. In a 1-0 win versus Oneonta on Friday, she registered three saves. Svendsen then recorded her third clean sheet of the season, stopping four shots in a 1-0 win versus New Paltz on Saturday. For the season, she has a 4-2-1 record with a 0.60 goals against average, 30 saves and an .882 save percentage.
