SUNYAC announces 2018 women's soccer award recipients

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's soccer awards have been voted on by the conference coaches. The awards are the Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the SUNYAC All-Conference Teams.

Offensive Player of the Year - Brooke Falsion, Potsdam

Potsdam midfielder Brooke Falsion was an offensive standout this season. The senior exploded for a conference-leading 17 goals overall - more than twice as many than the second-place finisher - while scoring two goals in a game on five separate occasions. Additionally, Falsion led all SUNYAC players in points (41) and shots taken (99). She finished tied for third in assists with seven. Those numbers helped Potsdam enjoy a successful season, as the Bears were able to make it to the semifinals in this year's SUNYAC Tournament. The Brockport native has scored 46 goals while accumulating 109 points - both are school records.

Defensive Player of the Year - Emily Janiszewski, Geneseo

Geneseo senior Emily Janiszewski was outstanding in the goal this year, proving to be a defensive stalwart for the Knights. Janiszewski's career-high 13 shutouts were the most among any other player in the SUNYAC this year, as was her save percentage of .929 percent. In addition, the Buffalo native only allowed three goals this season - the fewest among any SUNYAC goalie. That resulted in a phenomenal 0.19 goals against average - the best in the SUNYAC, and fourth-best among all goalies in NCAA Division III women's soccer. Janiszewski was a major part of the Knights' successful finish this year; after ending the regular season as the No. 1 seed in the conference, Geneseo defeated Cortland to win their second-consecutive conference title.

Rookie of the Year - Allison Seidman, Plattsburgh

Allison Seidman enjoyed her fair share of success playing soccer in high school, earning All-League and All-Conference honors on multiple occasions. Her first season of college soccer was also quite impressive. The freshman was a key factor in helping Plattsburgh make a run in this year's SUNYAC Tournament, netting six goals during her rookie year - tied for second-most on the team, and tied for seventh-highest among all conference players. Seidman also finished tied for third in the conference with 19 points scored, establishing herself as a significant offensive presence in the SUNYAC.

Coach of the Year - Nate Wiley, Geneseo

2018 was an exciting year for Geneseo women's soccer coach Nate Wiley. The Knights finished at the top after regular-season conference play, and beat Cortland to win their second-straight SUNYAC title. With this year's feat, Geneseo has won four conference championships under Wiley's leadership (2009, 2014, 2017, 2018). This is Wiley's second time receiving the Coach of the Year award in women's soccer; he also received the honor back in 2014.
