Geneseo tops SUNYAC women's tennis poll

CORTLAND, N.Y.- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tennis coaches have voted Geneseo No. 1 in the 2018 preseason poll with 45 points. The coaches voted New Paltz No. 2 with 43 points, while Oneonta is No. 3 with 39 points.

The No. 1 Geneseo Knights enter the 2018 season looking to win their eighth straight SUNYAC title. Head coach Jason Stephens was named the 2017 SUNYAC Coach of the Year and will be looking to win his fourth straight title. Geneseo defeated New Paltz, 5-3, in the SUNYAC championship match last season. The Knights made it the second round of the NCAA tournament where they were defeated by Middlebury.

New Paltz, the No. 2 team in the coaches poll, will try to win its first SUNYAC title since 2010. Under current head coach Rob Bruley the Hawks have finished first or second in the conference for 16 straight seasons. 2017 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Jenna Grandville, enters her sophmore season for for the Hawks.

No. 3 Oneonta was defeated by Geneseo, 5-2, in the semifinals of the 2017 SUNYAC championship. Lonnie Mitchell enters his ninth season as head coach where he has brought the Red Dragons to the semifinals in each of his eight seasons at Oneonta. The doubles team of Alyssa Brault and Julieta Eulau were named to the 2017 All-Conference first team.
