SUNYAC announces first 2018 women's tennis weekly award winners

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tabbed Fredonia's Mikayla Johnson as the first Women's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week for the 2018 season while the duo of Erin Wiggins and Nadine Ciardulli from Plattsburgh were honored as the Doubles Team of the Week.

The first two matches of Johnson's collegiate career were 6,0, 6-0 wins at the No. 4 singles position. She also was 2-0 at No. 2 doubles. Playing with two different partners, Johnson and her teammates were 8-0 and 7-1 winners against D.Youville and Pitt-Bradford, respectively. Johnson attended Southwestern High School.

Wiggins and Ciardulli swept the weekend in their doubles tennis matches for the Cardinals. The two beat the Rams of Farmingdale 8-4 and defeated the Golden Eagles of St. St. Joseph's College 8-3. Both wins helped Plattsburgh beat their opponents to open up their season with a 2-0 record.
