New Paltz wins 2019 SUNYAC women's tennis title

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -  New Paltz defeated Oneonta, 5-2, to capture its second straight and sixth overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's tennis crown, Sunday at the Binghamton Tennis Center. With the win the Hawks earned an automatic bid into the NCAA DIII women's tennis tournament in May.

New Paltz took a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins from its first doubles team Trinity Chow (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Laura Koob (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) (8-2) and its third doubles team Onalee Batcheller (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Alexandra Dratch (Montgomery, N.Y.), 8-7 (8-2). Oneonta's second doubles duo of Olivia Fraser (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won 8-4.

New Paltz's Chow, Koob and Batcheller won first, second and fifth singles respectively to clinch the win for the Hawks. Macdonald won sixth singles to add another team point for the Red Dragons.
