SUNYAC Women's Tennis All-Decade Honors Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its Women's Tennis Athlete of the Decade, Coach of the Decade and All-Decade Team as nominated and voted on by the institution's sports information directors.

To be eligible for the All-Decade Team, athletes must have competed in the SUNYAC at least one season during the 2009-10 academic year through 2019-20 and athletes must have been named to the All-SUNYAC team more than once or named Athlete of the Year once. Athlete and Coach of the Decade recipients were previously named SUNYAC Athlete of the Year or Coach of the Year. 

SUNYAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Decade - Marylen Santos, Geneseo

Santos was the 2014 SUNYAC Peter J. Cahill Award Winner and was an all-conference first team selection all four years of her career at Geneseo (2012-15). She is the all-time leader at Geneseo in singles wins (66), doubles wins (73), total wins (139), single-season doubles wins (23, 2015-16) and single-season total wins (44, 2015-16). Santos also ranks second in Geneseo program history in single-season singles wins (21, 2015-16). Her team won the SUNYAC championship title all four years she competed at Geneseo.

SUNYAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Decade - Jim Chen, Geneseo

Chen had a record of 72-20 during the last decade. He was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year four consecutive years (2011-2014) after leading his his team to the SUNYAC championship title those four years. He also coached his team to four NCAA tournament berths (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014) and advanced to the NCAA tournament second round two times in the decade (2012, 2014). Chen coached 40 All-SUNYAC selections since 2010 and one Peter J. Cahill Award Winner (2014). Chen coached tennis at Geneseo for 13 years, his last season with the team was in 2014.
