Women's Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected this week's Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Fredonia's Mikayla Capestrani has been selected as this week's Field Athlete of the Week, and Geneseo's Lauren Bamford has been chosen as this week's Track Athlete of the Week.

Capestrani broke Fredonia's indoor pole vault record, moving her current ranking to 22nd nationally in NCAA Division III at Saturday's Tiffin Dragon Grand Prix. The senior from Jamestown, N.Y. cleared 11 feet, 7 3/4 inches (3.55 meters), which is four inches higher than her previous personal best, and two inches higher than the previous school record. The Blue Devils will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete in the Mark Deneault Invitational this Sunday, hosted by Cornell University. 

Bamford ran a leg on the Knights' 4x400 that posted the 12th-fastest time (3:56.54) in NCAA Division III this season along with the 36th-fastest time in the 400 (58.50) during the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. The meet included international and open competition, as well as runners from Division I, II and III institutions. The 4x400 relay finished in 19th place, while Bamford finished 57th. The Knights are set to compete in the Brockport Invitational this Saturday.
