Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Oswego's Carly Vreugde (Lake George, N.Y.) and Plattsburgh's Victoria Whimple (Castleton, N.Y.) as its Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week. 

Vreugde notched a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash during the Cornell University's Kane Invite on Friday.. The Lake George, N.Y. native ran a time of 59.74 seconds, which is the fastest time in the SUNYAC this season and ranks 23rd nationally. The junior also took fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.93 seconds.

Whimple broke the 26-year old Plattsburgh State women's indoor track and field triple jump record at the prestigious John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Friday. Whimple finished seventh with a mark of 37' 11.5" which breaks the old record of 37' 5" that was set back in 1993. Whimple also ran a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.83 seconds to finish 24th. Her jump is currently tied for 5th in NCAA DIII and second in both the conference and region.
