First 2017 SUNYAC Pool Play, September 22-23

CORTLAND, N.Y.- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) volleyball conference competition will be in full force Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23, with the first pool play of the season hosted by Fredonia and Plattsburgh.

All ten schools in the SUNYAC will kick off their conference play this weekend with Fredonia hosting Brockport, Buffalo State, Cortland, Oneonta and Oswego and Plattsburgh hosting Geneseo, New Paltz and Potsdam. This is the first of three key conference weekends in the SUNYAC volleyball season. The next pool play weekend will be October 6 and 7 hosted by Oswego and Geneseo.The third and final pool play weekend will be October 20 and 21 hosted by Buffalo State and Oneonta. These three pool play weekends will determine the bracket for the SUNYAC playoffs, which starts October 31 and runs through November 4. Full Bracket

The action starts in Plattsburgh on Friday with the host riding a two-match winning streak as they take on Potsdam who is coming off a win in their last match against St. Joseph's (L.I.). In the other matchup in the north country, Geneseo will take on New Paltz, both matches have a 5 p.m. start time. The Knights will look to build on their five wins in their last six matches while the Hawks push to recover from a tough loss to Ithaca Saturday. 

Play in Fredonia starts with the host battling Buffalo State. The Blue Devils won four out of their last five matches while the Bengals fell to Case Western Reserve in their last match. In the other 5 p.m. match, Oneonta will face Cortland. Oneonta is coming into pool play on a two-match slide and Cortland is coming off a win over Elmira on Tuesday. The nightcap in Fredonia will be Brockport vs. Oswego. The Golden Eagles are coming in on the back of a loss to Susquehanna while the Lakers won three out of their last four matches.
