PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Matt Lein, who worked as an assistant with the Cardinal women's volleyball team for three years from 2014-16, has been named the head women's volleyball coach at Plattsburgh State, as announced Tuesday by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.
"We are thrilled to be welcoming Matt back to campus to lead our women's volleyball program," Plattsburgh State director of athletics and recreation Mike Howard said. "His love for coaching, his vision for the future of Cardinal Volleyball and his passion to be here at Plattsburgh State set him aside from an outstanding pool of candidates."
Lein spent the 2017 season coaching the women's volleyball club team at Siena College. Prior to Siena, he served as an assistant coach at Plattsburgh State, helping the Cardinals improve eight wins from 2014 to 2016 and mentor an All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) student-athlete.
He got his start in college coaching as an undergraduate student at NCAA Division II Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He worked as a student assistant all four years in college before taking over as an assistant coach at Nova Southeastern in 2013.
"This opportunity means the world to me," Lein said. "I fell in love with Plattsburgh from the moment I arrived in 2014. As I drove through the Adirondacks and saw Lake Champlain for the first time, I knew this is where I wanted to be. I could really see myself enjoying this city for years to come. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to implement the new ideas I developed from my previous coaching experiences and adapting them to fit Plattsburgh's needs. I am elated to continue my passion for coaching at the school that I love and that gave me so much during my time as the assistant coach."
Lein earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Nova Southeastern in 2013 and his Master of Science in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern in 2017.
