Brockport tops SUNYAC volleyball preseason poll

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) volleyball coaches have voted Brockport No. 1 in the 2018 conference preseason poll with 77 points. Geneseo came in at second with 75 points, while New Paltz placed third with 61.

The Golden Eagles look to defend their three consecutive SUNYAC titles in the last three years, all under current head coach Steve Pike. Brockport has won eight titles overall. Meghan Mastro, the 2017 Rookie of the Year, enters her sophomore season for the Golden Eagles.

Geneseo head coach Hunter Drews enters her second season with the Knights. In 2017, Geneseo took Player of the Year and was among three teams who won Defensive Player of the Year. The Knights finished the regular season third in the conference last season, and will look to improve upon last year's tournament finish. The team beat Cortland in the first round, 3-0, but fell to Fredonia, 3-0, in the semifinals.

Matt Giufre enters his 17th season as head coach at New Paltz, where he has two SUNYAC titles (2014 and 2009) under his belt. New Paltz finished the 2017 regular season fourth in the conference. They went on to beat Oneonta, 3-1, in the first round of last year's conference tournament, but lost to Brockport, 3-0, in the semifinals to end their season.
