GENESEO, N.Y. - The Geneseo women's volleyball team raised $2,800 during its inaugural Dig Pink fundraiser, Tuesday, during its home match with Houghton.

All proceeds will benefit the Side Out Foundation and breast cancer research.

"Since one in eight women in America will end up with breast cancer at some point in their life, it is hard to find anyone that doesn't know someone affected by the disease," said Geneseo head coach Hunter Drews. "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is important for us to do our part. It is all about keeping the women around us healthy and safe."

The members of the team sold t-shirts and bracelets while multiple gift baskets were donated for a silent auction that happened during the match. Fans also purchased ribbons at the door and wrote the names of family and friends impacted by cancer that were posted on the "Wall of Heroes" inside Schrader Gymnasium during the match.

"So many of us have family members or friends that have been affected by breast cancer," said senior captain Emily Ast. "This match was a great opportunity for us to rally together as a team to play for something bigger than ourselves."
