Brockport's Birth and Taylor selected as Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its weekly awards for women's volleyball. Brockport senior Cassie Birth has Offensive Athlete of the Week honors, while her teammate, senior Maddy Taylor, is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Birth, who comes from Black River, N.Y., was a consistent part of a Brockport attack that had a 3-0 record on the week and clinching a playoff spot. In the first game of the weekend after celebrating senior night, Birth was able to rack up 17 kills in a 3-1 Golden Eagle win. In addition, she had five digs. In the two games the next day, the senior outside hitter put up a total of 29 ills, seven kills and one block for 29.5 points. In total, Birth hit a .226 percentage for 46 kills, 12 digs, one block and one assist.

Meanwhile Taylor, a native of Corning, N.Y., was a key contributer on the defense for the Golden Eagles. In the first mach of the weekend, the senior recorded 26 digs and contributed on offense with three service aces and two assists. On Saturday, the libero put together two impressive matches with a combines 47 digs, three service aces and five assists. All together, Taylor put up 73 digs, six service aces, and seven assists.
