CORTLAND, N.Y. - Maddie McLaughlin (East Aurora, N.Y.) of Geneseo and Carly Haegele (Commack, N.Y.) of Cortland were named this week's PrestoSports Volleyball Athletes of the Week. Bechard earned the defensive accolade while Stieglitz was honored for her offensive performance this week.
McLaughlin helped the Knights to a 3-0 record in the CWRU Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve this weekend. Against Thiel, McLaughlin recorded eight kills on 15 swings with no errors for a .533 attack percentage and added four digs and two blocks. She added five kills in a 3-0 sweep of Washington & Jefferson and then posted a team best 16 kills on just 28 swings (.464) to lead the Knights to a 3-2 win over the host Spartans. McLaughlin averaged 2.64 kills per set and hit a .375 clip to lead the Knights.
Haegele averaged 4.2 digs per set (59 digs in 14 sets) during a 3-1 showing for Cortland at the University of Rochester Invitational. She helped the Red Dragons tie for second place in the 11-team tournament. Haegele finished with 23 digs and 10 assists in a five-set win over Nazareth and added 19 digs in a five-set loss to Rochester. She also had 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Medaille.
