Commissioner's Cup standings after winter championships

CORTLAND, NY – After the winter season concluded, Geneseo holds the top spot in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 8.63 points.

The cup was named for Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years.

Geneseo, the 2003, 2015 and 2016 winner of the cup, grabbed four SUNYAC crowns this winter in men's indoor track and field, women's indoor track and field, men's swimming and diving and women's swimming and diving. The Knights also earned points as the runner up in the women's basketball conference championship as well as finishing tied for third place in the ice hockey championship.

Oneonta didn't capture any championships this winter, but earned points as top contenders in two different sports. The Red Dragons finished the SUNYAC championships third in women's indoor track and field as well as the runner up in the men's basketball championship.

Cortland is sitting at the third spot with 6.63 points. They also did not claim any titles this winter season but earned points as top contenders in three different sports. Cortland finished second in the men's indoor track and field championship, third in women's swimming and diving championship, an also finished tied for third in the women's basketball championship. Cortland has won the cup 17 times in the last 20 years of its existence.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.

The final standings will be released after the spring championships.
