2019 Commissioner's Cup Fall Standings Announced

2019 Commissioner's Cup Fall Standings Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is pleased to announce the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings following its fall championships. Leading the way is Geneseo with an average of 8.50 points, followed by Cortland with 7.79 points and in third place is Oneonta with 7.43.

The cup was named after Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 following his retirement as the SUNYAC Commissioner. Dr. Damore served in the position for 33 years.

The Knights had a commanding fall semester, coming home with SUNYAC titles in men's cross country, women's cross country and field hockey. The Geneseo volleyball team and the women's soccer team finished the regular season as the top seed and the women's tennis team was ranked No. 3 after regular season play.

Cortland took home the women's soccer SUNYAC title to go with a strong regular season finish as the No. 2 seed. Cortland also made SUNYAC tournament appearances in volleyball, field hockey, women's tennis and men's soccer. Cortland placed third in women's cross country and fourth in men's cross country to add to their point total.

Oneonta men's soccer took home another SUNYAC title after a near flawless regular season. The Red Dragons also had SUNYAC tournament appearances in women's tennis, volleyball and field hockey. Oneonta placed second in men's cross country.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
