Men's Basketball Makes it 11 Straight Wins

New Paltz, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team won its 11th game in a row on Saturday, defeating New Paltz 81-59 on the road. Brockport is now 18-3 overall and 13-1 in conference play.

After putting up his first Brockport double-double last game, Tyree Grimsley had his highest scoring output as a Golden Eagle on Saturday. He came up just shy of a second straight double-double, recording 19 points and nine rebounds.

Danny Ashley did it all in the win, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Jahidi Wallace tallied 15 points and five rebounds, while Tyler Collins had eight points and four steals.

Grimsley ended up scoring multiple gritty baskets after snagging an offensive rebound in the first half, helping the Green and Gold to sieze a 19-6 lead early on. Registering 16 points in the first, Grimsley's scoring outburst pushed the Brockport lead to 20 points heading into halftime.

The Golden Eagles continued to get stops defensively and get into the paint for easy looks at the rim in the second half. Just inside the 10 minute mark, the team took a 27-point lead over the Hawks, the largest lead of the game. Brockport led from start to finish, as it cruised to another blowout win in SUNYAC play.

Brockport scored 50 points in the paint compared to 36 points inside by New Paltz. The Green and Gold defense kept the opponent to just 34.4% shooting in the game and 13.3% from long range. The team also won the turnover battle, committing nine fewer turnovers than the Hawks.

RJ Turner-Meyers led New Paltz with a game-high 21 points in the loss, as the team is now 5-15 overall and 1-12 in the conference.

The Golden Eagles are on their home court Tuesday night for a meeting with Fredonia. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
