FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's hockey team let one slip away on Saturday, allowing the game-winning goal inside the final minute in a 4-3 loss to Chatham.
The Cougars' Tristan Hillebert score his second goal of the game to give the visitors a measure of revenge. Fredonia State had beaten them 7-2 earlier this season.
The Devils struck first on a goal by
Tyler Riter at 7:26 of the first period.
Chatham went up 2-1 by the end of the first.
The Devils scored the only goal of the second period when
Eric Hirschhaut found the net and evened things at 2-2.
Chatham regained the lead at the 11:05 mark of the third on Hillebert's first goal. Three minutes later, the Devils tied it on a score from
Antonio Demacopoulos.
Hillebert's final goal came with 56 seconds left to play. Chatham improved to 2-11, while the Devils drop to 2-7-3.
Jacob Haynes had two assists for the Devils. Ethan Kirbus,
Victor Tracy, and
Tommy Martyn also had helpers.Â
The game was also the Teddy Bear toss, the first ever held by Fredonia State hockey. Teddy bears were tossed onto the ice after the Devils' first goal. Over 200 were collected for donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County.
The Devils are off until Jan. 11 when they travel to Bryn Athyn College.
