SUNY New Paltz Swimming Falls to Cortland in Dual Meet

(RESULTS) Cortland, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming team fell short against SUNY Cortland in a dual meet Friday.

The men's side lost the meet, 153-104, while the women lost, 149-102. The Hawks appeared fatigued as they were coming off of a full week of double practices and four different travel days. 

On the men's side, sophomore Jared Finn and Mitch Chappell had excellent 100-yard freestyle swims. Finn won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.26 seconds and Chappell placed third with a time of 50.87 seconds. Finn also placed second in the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.20 and aided in a second place 200-yard medley relay finish, splitting a 22.69 in the freestyle leg. Sophomore Luke Gamboli came in second place in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a 55.92 and he also placed third in the men's 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2 minutes, 11.54 seconds. In his first time swimming the men's 200-yard backstroke on the collegiate level, freshman Zac Brown swam a phenomenal time of 2:11.80.

"Our athletes showed great mental toughness in the second half of the meet," said coach Matthew Distler. "It's always tough to swim right after training trip and I was happy we were able to bounce back and keep the energy high."

On the SUNY New Paltz women's side, senior Samantha Woll came in second place in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a 2:05.40. Freshman Kelly Donlevy came in third place in the women's 100-yard butterfly swimming a 1:03.21. Junior Lindsay Kranitz had two battles in the women's 100-yard breaststroke and women's 200-yard breaststroke, coming in at second place for both.

Senior Chelsea Angulas had a solid day, placing first in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.38 and then finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke.
