New Paltz surges past Women’s Basketball, 79-57

BUFFALO, N.Y.— New Paltz outscored the host Bengals 35-17 in the third quarter, on 7 of 8 shooting from behind the 3-point line, en route to a 79-57 win over Buffalo State in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lexi Emmi (Liverpool/Liverpool) led the Bengals in scoring with a career-high 12 points off of the bench.
  • Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) and Jenna Lee (Wallkill/Wallkill) each chipped in nine points and eight rebounds, while LeBaron tallying three steals.
  • Tori Hackett (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) added eight points, five rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
  • New Paltz sprinted out of the gates by scoring 13 of the first 15 points, but Buffalo State rallied in the closing minutes and used a late layup by Lexi Emmi to take a 16-15 lead at the first intermission.
  • The Hawks reclaimed the lead on the first possession of the second frame and held a slim margin for the entire period to claim a 35-26 lead at halftime
  • New Paltz connected on its first 4 three-point field goals to push the lead to double figures and extended the advantage to 70-43 at the final intermission.
  • Buffalo State closed the contest by scoring 14 of the final 23 points but it was not enough as the Hawks clinched the conference win.
  • The Bengals finished with a 31-13 advantage in bench points, while holding a 41-34 edge in rebounding.
  • New Paltz finished 13-29 from distance and 18-24 from the free-throw line.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Marion Dietz paced the Hawks with 18 points to go along with five rebounds.
  • Olivia Badura chipped in 17 points and five assists, while Philesha Teape added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
