Barber scores twice as Men’s Hockey doubles up Bryn Athyn, 6-3

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Charles Barber (Queensbury/Lake George) scored twice and Buffalo State posted a pair of three-goal periods to pull away for a 6-3 victory over visiting Bryn Athyn in non-conference action this evening in the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bryn Athyn held an 11-10 shots on goal advantage in the first frame and were rewarded with the lone first-period goal at the 10:55 mark to take a 1-0 into the first intermission.
  • Buffalo State evened the score just over a minute into the second period as Zach Remers (Clarence/Clarence) scored his team-leading ninth goal off an assist by Barber.
  • The Bengals claimed their first lead of the contest just over 10 minutes later as Barber scored his second of the season off assists by Remers and Troy Button (Royal Oaks, MI/Shrine Catholic).
  • The Lions tallied their second goal of the game with 7:54 left in the frame to even the score.
  • Barber tallied his third goal of the season just over a minute later off assists by Braeden Doust (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) and Bryan Colburn (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) to give the Bengals a 3-2 at the final intermission.
  • Buffalo State opened the third period by extending its lead to 4-2 on a goal by Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg/Gaithersburg) at the 6:47 mark off assists by Anthony Tulipane (Buffalo/Kenmore East) and Andrew Logar (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield). 
  • Vadim Vasjonkin scored his seventh of the season just over seven minutes later to give the Bengals a 5-2 lead on assists by Nikita Kozyrev (Tallin, Estonia) and Colin O'Connor (Kankakee, IL/Providence Catholic). 
  • Bryn Athyn scored its final goal just 15 seconds later to trim the deficit to 5-3.
  • Tulipane finished off the Buffalo State scoring with his third of the season on an empty netter with 24 seconds left in the contest.
  • Trevor Micucci (Hamburg/Connections Acad.) finished with 29 saves in net for the Bengals
  • Buffalo State held Bryn Athyn to 0-4 on power-play chances, including a five minute power play in the second period, but failed to score on either of its two chances.
  • The Lions finished with a 33-32 edge in shots on goal.  
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Nikita Smirnov, Cameron Shorrock and Peter Falivena all scored for Bryn Athyn.
  • McKenzie Chalmers tallied 27 saves in net for the Lions.
