PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Purchase College women's basketball team kicked off the weekend in the Cardinal Classic against host Plattsburgh State on Friday night. Despite a 13-point performance from sophomore guard
Shadai Plowden, the Panthers struggled in the opener, falling 63-35 to the Cardinals inside Memorial Hall.
Purchase dropped to 0-3 overall with the loss and will face SUNY Poly in the consolation game at 1 p.m. today
(WATCH LIVE). Plattsburgh moved to 2-2 overall and will tip-off against Hamilton College in the Cardinal Classic championship game at 3 p.m.
For Purchase, Plowden (Yonkers, NY) swiped seven boards and a pair of steals to go along with a team-best 13 points. Sophomore guard
Amber Rodriguez finished with six points and three rebounds over 13 minutes of action.
Plattsburgh's Kayla Doody paved the road to victory for the home team with 12 points and a career-high-tying seven assists. Hanna Whitney chipped in with nine points and three steals, while Taylor Clare pulled down 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Plattsburgh shot 33.3 percent from both the field (22-of-66) and 3-point range (10-of-30) in addition to going 9-of-12 (75 percent) at the line. The Cardinals limited PC to 21.1 percent (12-of-57) shooting from the field and held a 51-38 margin in rebounds.
