Late run lifts Oneonta past Men’s Basketball, 76-70

ONEONTA, N.Y.— Jordan Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) scored a career-high 26 points, while Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) notched his third double-double of the season, but it was not enough as Oneonta scored the final five points to escape with a 76-70 win over the visiting Bengals this afternoon in SUNYAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christopher finished 12 of 17 from the floor to along with seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Grant chipped in 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
  • Jordan Morgan (Brooklyn/Thomas Jefferson) and Mark Worthy (Williamsville/Williamsville South) each added seven points, with Worthy also tallying three rebounds and two steals.
  • Oneonta captured the momentum from the opening tip, holding a favorable lead for the majority of the first half.
  • Buffalo State trimmed the deficit to 38-34, on a layup by Christopher with 4:20 left, but the Red Dragons closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 48-34 halftime lead.
  • The Bengals found themselves down by double digits in the early minutes of the second frame, until a 20-6 Buffalo State run in the span of seven minutes evened the score at 70-70 with 3:39 remaining. Christopher, Grant and Worthy combined to score all 20 points during the stretch.
  • Oneonta held the Bengals scoreless for the rest of the contest and converted four of the final six free-throw attempts to close out the win.
  • Buffalo State shot 43 percent from the floor and held the Red Dragons to only 42 percent shooting.
  • The Red Dragons outrebounded the Bengals 39-38, and held advantages in points off of turnovers (17-12), bench production (21-18) and points in the paint (34-24).
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kevin Mackin led the Red Dragons with 21 points on 7 of 16 shooting.
  • Ian Schultz added 14 points and five rebounds, while Joseph Bull chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
