Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Defeat Plattsburgh in Non-Conference Action

First-year Olivia Barringer and junior Katie Frederick each recorded a double-double to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 60-39 win over Plattsburgh State in non-conference play on Tuesday night in Plattsburgh, New York.

Barringer finished with 14 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor, and 12 rebounds, while Frederick tallied her second double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Frederick added two blocks and Olivia Middleton recorded a team-high five assists.

After a rocky start and a low-scoring first half, the Saints outscored the Cardinals 22-10 in the third quarter to take a 43-28 lead heading into the final frame.

The Saints continued to extend their lead in the third, pushing their lead to 22 points on a 3-pointer from Nicole Jeffrey with 6:14 to play in the fourth. St. Lawrence continued to outscore Plattsburgh State 17-11 in the final frame for the win, improving to 45 percent shooting in the second half.

"It was a nice team win," said head coach Dan Roiger. "Our defense and rebounding were fantastic all game and I thought our players made some good in-game adjustments. In the first half we couldn't buy a basket, but in the second half we shot it well."

"Everyone made contributions and we got some big plays during key stretches by a number of players," Roiger added. "It's sure fun to coach when everyone is an offensive threat on the floor. Kudos to Katie and Olivia B today who dominated the inside."

Kayla Doody led the Cardinals with eight points and seven rebounds, while Mya Smith finished with six points and Taylor Clare recorded nine rebounds.

St. Lawrence improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Cardinals fell to 1-2.

The Saints will host SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, November 23 before heading home for Thanksgiving break.
