Women’s Lacrosse falls to Nazareth in opener, 15-5

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Nazareth raced out to an early 8-1 run and did not look back as host Buffalo State dropped a 15-5 decision today in its non-conference season-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maddy Brzezicki (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) scored twice to lead the Bengals.
  • Julia Wachna (Syracuse/Onondaga), Erica Kennedy (Irving/Lake Shore), Samantha Burlow (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) also scored.
  • After Nazareth started the game by scoring two goals in the first two minutes, Wachna scored her first collegiate goal to trim the deficit in half.
  • The Golden Flyers scored eight of the next nine goals to take a 9-2 lead at intermission, with the lone Bengals goal coming from Brzezicki.
  • Nazareth opened the second half with five unanswered goals in the first five minutes to extend the lead to 14-2.
  • Brzezicki tallied her second goal at the 15:33 left, followed by Burlow and Kennedy who each scored their first collegiate goals late to pull the cut the lead to 14-5, but a final Golden Flyer goal completed the win.
  • Janae Nelson (Elmont/Elmont Memorial) finished with four saves in net for the Bengals.
  • Nazareth finished 14 of 19 on clear attempts, while holding the Bengals to 12 of 18.
  • The Golden Flyers held a 19-13 edge in shots on goal.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Emma States scored a game-high four goals to lead the Golden Flyers, while Lily Aldrich tallied three goals and three assists.
  • Katie Lawrence and Emma Prosak shared time in net for Nazareth, finishing with five and three saves respectively.
