Women’s Soccer clobbers Trine to open Bengals Classic, 6-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Erin Valente (Latham/Shaker) scored two of Buffalo State's three first-half goals, while Allie Reeds (E. Amherst/Williamsville South) finished with a goal and an assist as the Bengals powered past visiting Trine 6-0 in the opening game of the Bengals Classic this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alexis Cummings (Tonawanda/Kenmore East), Ashley Rackley (Depew/Depew) and Alexis Hanson (New York/West Broward) all scored their first goals of the seasons for the Bengals.
  • Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead as Valente struck first in the 9th minute and again in the 22nd minute to give the Bengals an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Bengals continued the offensive pressure as they finished with a 7-3 shots advantage after the first 45 minutes and were rewarded as Reeds tallied her first goal of the season off an assist from Kyndal Hetzel (Hilton/Hilton) to push the lead to 3-0 at intermission.
  • Trine attempted to shift the momentum in the opening minutes of the second frame with four shots in the first 15 minutes but failed to break into the deficit.
  • Buffalo State extended its lead at the 63th minute mark as Cummings netted her first marker of the season.
  • After dialing back the pressure for much of the second half, the Bengals closed out their scoring by tallying two goals in a four minute span.
  • Rackley tallied her first in the 78th minute of the assist by Reeds, while Hanson finished off the scoring with an insurance marker in the 82nd minute off an assist from Claire Dyal (Red Hook/Red Hook).
  • Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) needed to only make five saves to earn her 19th career shutout.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Ahdrin Bordner and Carmen Sweigard each played a half in net for the Thunder, combining for three saves.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • With her 19th career shutout, Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) is now only one shutout away from tying the program's career shutout record of 20 set by Sue Hough in 1984.
 
THE LATER GAME
  • Westminster held on for a 2-1 victory over Baldwin Wallace in the second game this evening.
