Men’s Hockey skates past Chatham, 6-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—Freshman Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia) had two goals and an assist to pace Buffalo State past host Chatham for a 6-2 win tonight in the Bengals' first action of the New Year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) added a goal and an assist for Buffalo State, while A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Kenmore East) and Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) picked up two assists apiece.
  • Chatham struck first just 21 seconds into the game, but the Bengals settled in and scored pair of power-play goals to take a 2-1 lead before the first intermission.
  • Kozyrev netted both of Buffalo State's power-play goals, giving him five for his rookie season.
  • Chatham started fast in the second period as well, evening the score just 1:25 into the frame, but Buffalo State pulled back in front just over five minutes later on Remers' team-leading eighth goal of the year.
  • The Bengals pulled away in the third period with three more goals by three players who each netted their first of the season.
  • Connor Zak (Amherst, NY/Nichols) started the late surge, followed by Charles Barber (Queensbury, NY/Lake George) on the power play, and then Braeden Doust (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville DeWitt) completed the scoring with a power-play empty-netter.
