Adams scores 1,000th point, Men’s Basketball snaps skid with win over Plattsburgh, 89-82

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.— Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) scored a game-high 27 points to become the 25th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau as Buffalo State snapped its 12-game losing streak with an 89-82 win over host Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adams finished 4 of 10 from behind the 3-point line and 9 of 12 from the charity stripe to go along with seven assists.
  • Jordan Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) posted his second 20-point game of the weekend, tallying 23 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
  • Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) chipped in 20 points on 9 of 15 shooting and five rebounds.
  • Argjend Imeri (Syracuse/Nottingham) added seven points and a career-high six assists, while Zion Guzman Milton (Valley Stream/Valley Stream) finished with eight rebounds.
  • Buffalo State and Plattsburgh traded points for the most of the first half, until a 9-2 run gave the Bengals a 35-28 lead with 8:20 left in the first stanza.
  • Adams knocked down three free throws to extend the Bengals lead to 49-36 with 2:29 remaining, but the Cardinals scored the final eight points to trim the deficit to 49-44 at halftime.
  • Buffalo State maintained a slim margin for the entire second half, extending it to 73-62 on a layup by Grant with 9:58 remaining.
  • Plattsburgh cut the lead to 79-78 with 3:32 left but failed to shift the momentum as Buffalo State clinched the conference win.
  • Buffalo State shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Cardinals 38-36.
  • Plattsburgh shot 43 percent from the floor, but only 26 percent from behind the 3-point line.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Erik Salo paced the Cardinals with 25 points on 15 of 18 shooting from the charity stripe.
  • Travis Cox chipped in 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • With its win over Plattsburgh, Buffalo State kept its SUNYAC playoff hopes alive as it is only three games behind Geneseo for sixth place with four games remaining.
