HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded power play opportunities in the first period with Michael Gillespie getting a golden chance to put Oswego up when he took a pass from the far point at the corner of the net and tried to stuff it past the Plattsburgh goalie.
- A few minutes later and nine minutes into the contest, senior Derek Brown got possession after a faceoff inside the Plattsburgh zone and was able to slide the puck into the middle of the ice.
- Fellow senior Anthony Passero snuck in behind some traffic in front of the netminder and snapped a shot over the left shoulder into the net to open scoring and get his first goal of the season.
- Two and half minutes later in the period, Jody Sullivan sent Josh Zizek into the Cardinal zone on the right side.
- As Joseph Molinaro drove down the middle, Zizek sent a pass back to a trailing Carter Allen who used Molinaro's screen to slap a shot past Cardinal goalie Jimmy Poreda for the second Laker goal.
- It was Allen's first goal and third point of the season.
- The Lakers outshot the Cardinals 16-4 in the first period.
- In the second period, Plattsburgh picked up the pressure with 20 shots and eight of them on goal.
- Richer stymied Plattsburgh, with half of his eight saves in the period coming at close range.
- Oswego got some breathing room at 12:29 of the second period when Tyler Currie skated into the Plattsburgh zone, dished to Travis Broughman in the middle for a shot.
- Poreda made the save but the rebound found Currie and he whipped a shot home for his first goal of the season.
- Both teams had chances in the third period with Oswego's best one on a cut by Molinaro into the center of the Plattsburgh zone for a shot that sailed just wide.
- Just over three minutes left in the contest, Plattsburgh's Samir Abouelhana took a pass in front of Richer, cut to the right edge of the cage as Richer closed out and attempted to swing the shot into the open net.
- Richer managed to sprawl back and get enough of the shot with his left leg to keep Plattsburgh off the scoreboard.
- Plattsburgh took 47 shots to 41 for the Lakers, with Oswego holding the edge on-goal at 29-25.
- Faceoffs were fairly even with Oswego winning 27-of-53.
- Penalty-kill units did their job in the game, with Oswego holding the visitors to 0-for-2 while going 0-for-3 on their chances.
