Gray's Five Points Lead Lakers to Victory

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team won their second straight one-goal contest with a 12-11 win over the Alfred Saxons on the road in snowy conditions behind five points from sophomore Weston Gray.  The win moves Oswego to 2-0 on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a back-and forth first period with Oswego grabbing the first lead on a Liam Dollard goal 4:57 into the contest.
  • The teams alternated the next four goals, with Weston Gray and Jack Delany getting the Laker tallies to take a 3-2 lead into the second period.
  • Alfred scored a pair inside the first three minutes of the next stanza.
  • Oswego would go on a 4-1 run in the next six minutes with goals from Dan Doolan, Ryan Dumont, Delany and Gray.
  • Senior Tim Schof had a pair of assists while Gray added one on Delany's second goal as Oswego took a 7-5 lead into the half.
  • Alfred led 21-15 in shots at the half, but the teams were even at shot-on-goal at 10. 
  • The Lakers were up despite Alfred holding a 13-1 edge in won-faceoffs.
  • It was a 4-2 period in the third in favor of the hosts with Kyle Bacon and Delany scoring for Oswego to make it 9-9.
  • The Saxons scored within the first minute of action in the fourth.
  • Gray, Dollard and Bacon scored the next three goals to put the Lakers in control heading down the stretch.
  • Alfred put two shots off the post in the final two minutes and scored a goal with 30 seconds to go.
  • The hosts won the faceoff and got a shot off wide with six seconds to go and maintained possession.
  • As the Alfred attacker made a move out front, the Laker defense stripped the ball and time expired.
  • Gray finished with 3 goals and 2 assists while Schof, Dollard and Delany all had three points.
  • Laker goalie Kevin O'Donnell made 10 saves in the contest in earning the win.

The Lakers will travel to Morrisville for a contest at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
