MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (2-9-1, 2-6-2 SUNYAC) scored four times in the third period to defeat Morrisville State (6-5, 5-3) 6-2 on Saturday afternoon. Six different Bears scored and sophomore goalie Ryan Glander (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Rochester Junior Monarchs) made 28 saves to earn his second career win.
 
The Mustangs took a holding penalty just 19 seconds into the contest. The power play fired up the Bears and sophomore forward Michael McArthur (St. Thomas, Ontario/Oswego State)
scored his third goal in as many games at 2:05 with assists from senior assistant captain Sean Winikates (Phoenix, Ariz./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) and sophomore defenseman Thomas Terranova (Middletown, N.J./Syracuse Stars). Potsdam didn't slow down after the goal and struck again at 15:27. Senior captain Vincent Guimond (Sorel-Tracy, Quebec/Gloucester Rangers) made it 2-0 with an unassisted marker. The Bears outshot Morrisville 20-3 in the first period.
 
The Mustangs bounced back in a penalty-filled second period, taking the play to Potsdam. At the 12:57 mark, Kyle Wadden got Morrisville on the board. Over the last five minutes of the period, the Bears took four overlapping penalties resulting in multiple 5-on-3 power plays for Morrisville. Potsdam killed three of the four, but Eric Melso tied the game with 15 seconds left. The Mustangs fired 20 shots on Glander during the stanza.
 
The Bears smothered Morrisville with offense in the third period, outshooting them 22-7 and scoring four goals. Freshman defenseman Ryan Lieth (Warwick, N.Y./New York Apple Core) netted the game-winner at 5:04 with an assist from sophomore forward Devin Panzeca (Lake Zurich, Ill./East Coast Wizards). Sophomore forward Ben Thompson (Canterbury, Conn./New Hampshire) made it 4-2 nearly four minutes later with a helper from junior defenseman Jon Venter (Guilford, Conn./Syracuse Stars). At 15:26, Winikates struck to extend the lead to 5-2 with assists from junior forwards Joey Sollazzo (Ottawa, Ontario/Navan Grads) and Paul Michura (Chester, N.J./New Jersey Rockets). Senior assistant captain Nate Zweig (Binghamton, N.Y./Syracuse Stars) close the scoring with 1:51 left with junior forward Brett Horn (Cary, N.C./Humboldt Broncos) picking up the assist.
 
Jared Young made 45 saves for the second night in a row for the Mustangs. Potsdam outshot Morrisville 51-30. Potsdam was 1-for-4 on the power play and the Mustangs finished 1-for-7.
 
The Bears are now off until a January 4 meeting at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. at 4:10 p.m.
